In this presentation, we discuss results from an EEG brainwaves biomarkers study involving an intervention designed to support a cognitive focus state. While results from the intervention are discussed, we also highlight how our control groups still showed marked transformation through the course of our mindfulness intervention. As the majority of our college student participants had not ever remained in stillness for even five minutes (as assessed through structured interviews), we observed their altered brain states even from a control group experience. In a final discussion, we speak to the current crises in our youth and young generation, whereby students are constantly stressing themselves in a cognitive state or distracting themselves on smartphones and social media. We offer ideas for how small mindfulness-based interventions can effect large shifts in human electrophysiology, which can support relaxation, focus, and overall longterm health.
