Imagination between reality and description

Imagination as Therapy: Between Reality and Description The Use of Mental Imagery Strategies in Processing Information and Mental Representations Researcher: Bashaer Faisal Benjabi Bachelor of Psychology, King Abdulaziz University Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Abstract This paper aims to draw attention to the role of imagination in the human brain by examining its mechanisms, functions, and potential applications. Imagination is explored as a cognitive process that can be developed and employed as an integrated psychological therapeutic approach. Numerous studies have investigated the effectiveness of imagination-based techniques in enhancing psychological well-being and improving cognitive and emotional functioning Many psychological difficulties, if not most of them, involve a struggle with accepting reality as it is. Individuals often resort to imagination as an unconscious defense mechanism to escape distressing experiences. Therefore, this paper explores the possibility of utilizing the same cognitive process—imagination—as a therapeutic tool capable of addressing these difficulties and promoting healthier psychological adjustment
