Operational Intelligences Beyond Consciousness Scales: A Traceable Transdisciplinary Architecture for Observer, Decision, and Human–AI Co-Creation

Research on biological and artificial consciousness often oscillates between strong ontological attribution and narrow behavioral proxies. This conceptual-methodological paper proposes an intermediate layer of analysis: operational intelligences, understood as traceable modes through which a system distinguishes a relevant difference, relates it to context, orients a response, revises an action, and redistributes what has been learned. Consciousness is retained as a horizon of presence, integration, and possible experience rather than treated as an absolute magnitude or developmental scale. In dialogue with Edgar Morin’s complex thought, Basarab Nicolescu’s transdisciplinarity, and Peircean semiosis, the proposal is organized through PGOID—Potential, Generates, Operates, Integrates, and Dissolves—a recursive grammar for following the passage from possibility to oriented action, friction, provisional coherence, and transformed return. PGOID is not presented as a causal theory of consciousness, but as a transdisciplinary architecture for comparing processes without collapsing biological, psychological, social, semiotic, and technical levels. A second component, Decision Justification Quality (DJQ), makes the observer and the decision process methodologically visible by examining function, alternatives, criteria, evidence, consequences, limitations, and conditions for revision. In human–AI co-creation, this distinguishes algorithmic contribution from embodied responsibility without inferring machine phenomenology from functional performance. Each claim receives an explicit epistemic status, and the architecture requires heteroreferential correction through participants, independent interpreters, negative cases, or external evidence. The contribution is a non-scalar vocabulary for asking which operations are observable, what evidence supports their attribution, what remains uncertain, and who has authority to correct the interpretation.

About the speaker

Carlos Eduardo Bustos Hernández is a Mexican transdisciplinary researcher, designer, and educator with more than 30 years of experience in design, educational technology, pedagogy, and artificial intelligence. He is a doctoral candidate in Complex Thought and the creator of SCENTIA, PGOID, MSIIT-C, and COCREA. His current research examines traceability, decision justification, and human–AI co-creation in audiovisual education.
