The field of consciousness studies is filled with useless metaphysical weeds that are preventing sturdy stock and proper theories from emerging and growing. Too many true scientists claim that consciousness is non-material, even within the material brain, but they also mean by that non-physical. They make the same mistake that far too many others make and equate materialism with physicalism. But material and physical are different and physical is better associated with the word natural. All material things are physical but being physical also includes non-material fields, and these fields are more fundamental than matter, so consciousness is still physical even though non-material. The true problem with consciousness that science must contend with is twofold: An inability to properly define consciousness in a manner that succumbs to theoretical scientific research and an inability to develop a theoretical physics model of unification that explains and predicts the emergence and evolution of life, mind and consciousness. Only a model such as this will be able to explain how the brain gives rise to the emergence of conscious awareness. These problems go beyond the normal problems inherent in physics, such as those between reductionism and wholism, materialism and physicalism, but are related after their own manner to this and other dualisms in nature. By taking a wholly new approach founded upon the single field unification of physics, which has already been used to define and model life (the biofield), mind and consciousness within the context of a truly unified field theory, a model of how the brain works from three-dimensional sensory input to memory storage, recall, and recognition, to building and storing complex memories from saved core memories, all the way through and up to the formation of self-concepts and worldviews, as well as the whole-brain resonance necessary for simple cognition and waking consciousness, and beyond to whole-body coherence representing the manifestation of higher consciousness. Within this context, wholly new areas of physics are opened to science, including what ends life, death and what happens after death, i.e., the afterlife, as well as other mental phenomena that are only now being discovered by the latest neurological and neurophysical research. This theory, single (operational) field theory or SOFT, is complete, comprehensive, and verifiable according to standard scientific standards and principles, observations and our experiences of the natural world, including its physical model of consciousness. Quite simply and literally, humanity, science and physics must overcome and transcend our more than three-hundred millennia of material indoctrination and three-dimensional bias before we can truly and accurately understand consciousness and its limits to human thought, ourselves and the universe.
Professor Beichler has been teaching Physics, Mathematics, the History and Philosophy of Science and European History as well as other related subjects at the university and college level for more than four decades. He earned his Ph.D. in Theoretical Paraphysics (alternately called Bio-Psycho Physics) in 1999 from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He designed his own PhD program from previous work and degrees in interdisciplinary physics (MA, 1981), history of science (MA, 1987), PhD work in the history of science (finished all work and exams, dissertation is ABD) and new work in the field of parapsychology. Dr. Beichler officially retired from teaching in 2011 to conduct advanced theoretical research in Cosmology and advanced physics to unify all of physics on his own as well as physics of the brain (from the neural correlates of consciousness and physics of the neural net to whole brain cognition or coherence) to explain human consciousness and spirituality. He now calls this field of research Neuro-Cosmology. He is ready to verify his research and apply his completed version of Einstein’s unified field theory, which he calls single field theory or SOFT, to an ever-expanding number of phenomena experimentally and observationally. SOFT not only unifies the relativity and quantum theories, but incorporates all other unification attempts (i.e., the standard model and superstring theories) within his five-dimensional space-time model of the Bulk. He has written and published several books (including To Die For, 1st edition 2007, 2nd edition 2020) as well as more than seventy articles on these and related subjects. Nearly all his published material and information on his other publications can be found and downloaded from Academia.edu. Dr. Beichler was elected President of the Academy for Spiritual and Consciousness Studies Inc (ascsi.org) in 2018 and is editor of their Journal and newsletter (JASCS and The Searchlight) through which he hopes to further his cause of raising the level human consciousness, individually and collectively, to the level of spiritual enlightenment.
