Phenomenal Geometry as Physical Constraint and Derived Prediction: Projective Process Monism

Projective Process Monism (PPM) is a geometric framework in which conscious experience and physical matter are co-derived from one projection operator acting on one arena. The same construction touches the hard problem, the measurement problem, fine-tuning, and the cosmological constant. The framework's anchor is the established constraint, formalized in the Projective Consciousness Model (Rudrauf, Bennequin, Friston et al., 2017), that phenomenal experience has the geometry of real projective three-space, RP³. PPM treats this as a physical constraint and works out the minimal arena consistent with it: CP³ (complex projective three-space) with its native anti-holomorphic involution τ — complex conjugation, intrinsic to the complex structure. RP³ embeds uniquely as Fix(τ). CP³ is possibility space; RP³ is actuality; the projection CP³ → RP³ is the framework's universal actualization mechanism. The arena's symmetry forces a V₄ = Z₂ × Z₂ partition of all content extracted by τ-projection. The same partition organizes Standard Model gauge content and phenomenal content alike. The identity claim is precise. Each τ-projection separates content into τ-even directions, which survive into the actualized record on RP³, and τ-odd directions, which are deposited into the normal-bundle structure and do not persist as classical record. Qualia are identified with the τ-odd normal-bundle content — a mechanism-level identity, not correlation or emergence. Within a single τ-event, all four V₄ cells are co-extracted by the τ-projection, so no separate binding mechanism is required; phenomenal unity is intrinsic to the projection. PPM derives the Standard Model gauge group, three fermion generations, the fine-structure constant α, and the cosmological constant Λ from the same construction, and yields falsifiable predictions across physics and consciousness. Consciousness predictions include a phenomenal binding window of ~60 ms; integrated information Φ scaling as √N for cortical architectures; a Berezinskii–Kosterlitz–Thouless-sharp anesthetic transition; and direct recovery of the PGL(4,R) projection basis used in PCM and in projective active-inference work, all from the CP³ geometry of the arena. The talk traces how the RP³ geometry of phenomenal experience forces the structure of the physical arena, derives physics from that arena, and returns phenomenal experience as a derived prediction — locating the hard problem's resolution in the τ-odd identity for qualia, and presenting the consciousness-side predictions that test the framework.

Jeff Wozniak is an independent researcher based in Santa Barbara, California, with a B.S. in Computer Science. He works professionally as a software engineer in the space industry; his research on Projective Process Monism is conducted in personal time. His work draws philosophical lineage from William James's phenomenology, Whitehead's process metaphysics, and neutral-monist accounts of the mind-matter relation. The central thesis his research develops is that the structure of conscious experience constrains the structure of physical reality, with the two understood as aspects of one geometric object accessible to rigorous mathematical formalization.
