The Rigged Hilbert Space as the Geometry of Flow; A Formalism for Continuous Orch OR

The Flow state is characterized by effortless action, temporal distortion, heightened creativity, and exceptional performance, yet no mathematical framework currently unifies its quantum and classical features. This presentation proposes that Flow can be understood as a process of Continuous Orch OR unfolding within the geometry of the Rigged Hilbert Space (RHS), or Gelfand Triplet (Φ ⊂ H ⊂ Φ′). Within this framework, the test space (Φ) corresponds to the trained constraints of skill acquisition and embodied practice, the Hilbert space (H) to the quantum-coherent dynamics proposed by Orch OR, and the dual space (Φ′) to the emergence of observable action and perception. Flow arises when consciousness continuously traverses these domains, enabling seamless transitions between latent possibility and skilled expression. Recent observations of polyatomic time-crystal dynamics and Triplet-of-Triplets resonance structures in microtubules suggest a nested hierarchy of periodicities spanning multiple temporal scales. We propose that these resonance hierarchies provide a candidate biological instantiation of the multiscale geometry described by the Gelfand Triplet, linking quantum coherence to classical neural syntax. In this view, Stable Heteroclinic Channels describe the transient behavioral trajectories that emerge from this deeper periodicity scaffold during Flow. The framework generates empirical predictions, including scale-free resonance organization, signatures of quantum chaos, and anesthetic disruption of the periodic structures supporting Flow. By connecting Orch OR, microtubule time crystals, and the Rigged Hilbert Space, this model offers a falsifiable mathematical framework for understanding Flow as a continuous quantum-classical process and provides a potential bridge between the dynamics of consciousness and their underlying geometric organization.

About the speaker

Mark Valladares is an independent scholar and thought pioneer whose interdisciplinary exploration of consciousness is grounded in experiential approaches drawn from sport, music, and the arts. He studied Neuroscience and English at Amherst College (’86), where his inquiry into consciousness began by linking the transcendence described in Romantic poetry with emerging insights from neurobiology.

A well-established tennis teaching professional at the premier club in the Midwest, Valladares cultivates tennis as a contemplative practice and a medium for exploring learning modalities, improvisation, and high-performance states. He is also a composer and multi-instrumentalist, integrating musical creativity with athletic flow to study the neural and phenomenological signatures of skill, attention, and embodiment.

Valladares has presented “The TennisCentric Approach to Consciousness” at the Science of Consciousness Conference since 2016, offering participants a unique synthesis of movement, perception, and contemplative awareness.
