In ancient Indian tradition four stages of consciousness have been enumerated namely-jagrat (waking), Swapna (dreaming) ,Sushupti(deep sleep ) and Turiya or the fourth stage . This fourth stage is named as Nirvikalp smadhi by Maharishi Patanjali [2nd century BCE ancient Indian sage] and shoonya (void) stage by Buddha [5th century ancient Indian sage] . To experience all these stages a living conscious creature like human being is required. Silence, endurance and emotional isolation are probably inherent in human beings and are enlivened experiences. In a living system , consciousness is related to mind and body which possesses self awareness ,self dialogue capacity far from materialism. The thinking ,the ability and actions of human being are his conscience. Consciousness is subjective experience of being aware of existence which cannot be programmed. In modern world , significant advancement in technology has given birth to ‘Artificial Intelligence ‘ AI . AI is bestowed with the power of perceptual speed and precision for various tasks ranging in the fields from agriculture, industry, finance, medical and domestic, driverless cars on the roads , etc., . AI is replacing human beings easing and improving the qualities of their lives.AI is non living and unlike human brain does not possess non physical dimensions . AI is reliant on its programmer whereas human intelligence is always advancing .AI systems run on CPUs, GPUs, TPUs or other processors which adhere to computational dynamics ,so it cannot be consciousness . *Dr. Savita Kansal , Principal, Brahmrishi Yoga Training College ,Sector:19-A, Chandigarh [U.T.] India.
