Epstein Disclosure
The predecessor of this conference, The Science of Consciousness (TSC), received a $50,000 donation from Gratitude America in 2017. Several speakers and organizers from previous editions of the conference were named in the Epstein files released in early 2026. The University of Arizona cancelled the original TSC 2026, and the former conference director publicly acknowledged these connections.
The Science of Consciousness 2026 has been reorganized under new leadership and governance. We are committed to full transparency regarding past funding and to ensuring that no future donations come from individuals or entities with ties to exploitation, trafficking, or serious criminal conduct.
Vetting Protocol
We have adopted a systematic, seven-step web-screening protocol for vetting all donors, sponsors, and invited speakers. The protocol uses publicly available information and produces a structured risk assessment for each individual or entity.
The Seven Steps
- Identity Resolution — Confirm the correct individual or entity using public profiles, company records, and biographical sources.
- Criminal and Legal History — Search for criminal charges, civil litigation, settlements, and regulatory actions via news outlets, court records, and government enforcement agencies.
- Association with Known High-Risk Figures — Screen for documented relationships with individuals involved in major scandals, including Epstein-related reporting, flight logs, and financial ties.
- Reputation Risk Screening — Search for controversies, allegations, and investigations, assessing whether they are verified by multiple independent sources.
- Philanthropy and Institutional Relationships — Review donation history and institutional affiliations, flagging cases where institutions have previously returned donations.
- Political Exposure and Sanctions — Check government sanction lists and politically exposed person databases for foreign influence or corruption concerns.
- Summary Risk Scoring — Assign a categorical risk score (0–3) based on findings. Any Epstein-related result, criminal conviction, or multiple independent allegations of serious misconduct triggers automatic escalation and additional review and discussion by the chairs.
Methodology
Each step involves targeted web searches using the individual’s name combined with specific keywords by Antropic Claude. Results are cross-referenced against major news outlets, government records, and investigative journalism. The output is a structured risk profile including occupation, known associations, criminal and civil records, and an overall risk score.
